Today, you’ll find consumers using lanyards in ways that can be loosely grouped into three main categories.
Securing Your Personal Electronics
You may have noticed that your phone or mp3 player has a little notch or even a small hole included in the exterior shell. This is a part of the design, not a sign of flaws or damage. It’s there so that you can use it to attach things to your device. Some people use it to attach key rings or little charms, but people who are looking to make sure they don’t lose their electronics use the hole to attach a lanyard. Using a lanyard in this way keeps your expensive and essential equipment that much closer. That way, its there when you need it and you’ll never need to worry about losing it.
Securing Your Identity
Many secured buildings require people with legitimate reasons to access the area carry some sort of previously issued identification card. This card or pass is something you need to be able to access quickly and easily. You may even need to keep it on display so that you can be identifiable at all times. In this case, you’ll want to wear a lanyard with an attached badge holder to solve your problems. The clear badge holder keeps your card up front and center where it can be seen while the lanyard keeps it on your person and protected from loss.
Securing Your Safety
Jobs that require their employees to work with heavy machinery need to be especially concerned with workers safety. They frequently employ lanyards as a part of a ‘kill switch’ mechanism to ensure that an employee will be protected even if he falls during the operation of machinery. The lanyard is attached to the operator’s wrist as well as the machine and if something happens, the employee’s weight pulls the off switch even if they cannot reach it themselves.
As you can see there are plenty of reasons why lanyards make sense.
